A. You should seriously consider checking out ArchiCAD's Help menu.. To do what you are asking, you simply model one side of the roof and use the mirror command (using the ridge as your reference) to produce the second roof.. you now have yourself a double pitched roof. Have a good day.

What is the equivalent of "b" or block command (AutoCad) in ArchiCad?
Q. "Group" is different so it is not the answer. I want to make an instance of one object & multiply it, & if I want to edit all the clones, I would just edit one & all the others will be like the original so my work would be finished faster. "b" is the command in Autocad, but I dont know the command in ArchiCad. Please answer this specifically. I just need the equivalent command of "b" in Archicad. thnx!

Which tutorial ArchiCad for beginners do you suggest for a practicing architect ?
Q. Hundreds of tutorials ArchiCad are on the market which is confusing for a beginners to make a choice . Remark: I have not, also, the slightest idea about AutoCad. Thank you,

A. I have yet to attempt to learn autocad from a 3rd party software. I have been using the program for 12 years as I am an intern architect, and would advise you to pick up a class at a local community college. It isn't the easiest program to use, not because it was designed badly, rather that it can do just about anything you want it to.

Asked by syed s - Mon Mar 31 11:56:22 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Since you said "certificate" I'm assuming you don't have an actual college degree...Bachelors, Masters, etc You can't get an position as civil engineer with anything less than a BS degree and at least 5 yrs related experience. I have an Advanced Honors Associates Degree in CAD technology. These days noone will hire me into any drafting position, even with 6 yrs previous work experience in the field because they're looking for those who have a BS degree. Without that degree your best bet is to look for entry level, no experience positions which are few in number, especially for architecture and civil.

A. If you paid for archiCAD you should get onto the Graphisoft to find out where your serial number should be, and have them resend it. If you downloaded the student/teacher educational version, you should have got a 30 day trial license via email. For more details see the link below.

A. have you tried blender 3d? it's for free, the best free 3d software out there, it's really good, it also has many other features besides tools for architecture, you could probably, if you want, make the house on fire or smoke out of the chimney thanks to the particle generator. It's not solely for architectural purposes, but you can create the best 3d houses for free.

A. Depends on what line of work you are in, and what program your employer uses. Of course, if you are the principal, and need to choose one or the other, then you are asking the wrong question. For the latter: AutoCAD is a generic CAD, ArchiCAD is a dedicated architectural BIM/VBM program. If you aren't doing architecture, ArchiCAD will do you zero good, on the other hand, if you are doing electrical diagrams, AutoCAD will work far better for your needs (and there are aftermarket AutoCAD verticals that are even better). Also, if your subs are not using ArchiCAD, you can still work with them, but it is seriously more convenient if you are all on the same "package" (i.e. Revit, Revit Mechanical, and so on) For the former: what the… [cont.]

A. GIS, Land Development Desktop, AutoCad, and Civil 3D. I would suggest that you don't waste your money on the diploma. I would worry about getting a job after graduation as an entry level CE. If the job you take requires drafting, the company will train you in the specific software that they use.

Please explain in brief Render Programs and which could be best with ArchiCAD?
Q. Hi there, Basically I am a 4th Yr Architecture Student and have been using ArchiCAD (Amongst other) modelling programs. The renders I produce through ArchiCAD are alright, however I have been reading and by the sounds of it there are several *Render Programs* that you can use to create much more realistic renders? I was wondering if anyone could give a brief explination of what Render programs are, how they work, and what would be best to use with ArchiCAD?! It would be much appreciated! Thanks very much guys!

A. I personally would stick with ArchiCAD's "lightworks" ... for 1 good reason.. 1. No need to mess with importing and all the coordination it takes to prep-up a render every time there is a design change...(think real-time, if everything is setup nicely) I know many will beg to differ...
